Patrick joined BVAR as a field school student in 2008, and due to his advanced age and enormous size quickly became a supervisor. He has a Master's Degree from Eastern Washington University, and in August 2009 began the Ph.D. program at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
Patrick is a retired police officer, farrier, and blacksmith.
Beginning in 2010 Patrick will supervise the excavations at Lower Dover, a previously unexcavated site on the Belize River. He will be looking at the effects of climate change on the people of Lower Dover, and is fascinated by the ratios of oxygen isotopes in jute shells. Patrick will also continue the survey work being done in the Belize River Valley.
Patrick's interests include the Mesoamerican ballgame, the socio-economic structure of the Classic Maya, climate change, and snails.
