Dr. William C. Poe
Dr. Poe is Professor of Archaeology in the Department of History at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California. He has directed archaeological excavation or survey at Hebron in the occupied West Bank, at Petra in Jordan, at Chavin de Huantar in Peru, at Ujuxte on the south coast of Guatemala, and at El Pilar in Belize.
His primary interest is in the study of the ways in which people organize time and space as a reflection of ideology. This interest has led him to devote most of his field research to methods for the quick and precise mapping of archaeological sites and monuments and particularly in recent years to the use of the Global Positioning System in archaeological research.
